NORTON COMMANDO Description
Norton Commando 1974 Mk2 850 A lovely clean example with matching Numbers that runs well, with some subtle modifications - including a large flyscreen for wind defection, fitted with a Mikuni carb conversion and Boyer Bransden electronic ignition for improved starting and running and pea shooter silencers.
Has Only covered 7,603 miles Only 3 former keepers.
There's masses of receipts for parts and service work from RGM and a sheath of old MOT's etc.
The Commando's vibration-beating Isolastic frame enabled Norton to successfully prolong the life of their ageing parallel twin.
Launched in 1967, the Commando used the preceding Atlas model's 750cc engine and AMC gearbox and was an instant hit, being voted Motor Cycle News 'Machine of the Year' for five consecutive years.
A little down on top speed compared to rivals such as BSA-Triumph's 750cc triples and Honda's CB750 four, the Commando more than made up for this top speed deficit with superior mid-range torque and sweeter handling.
Introduced in 1973, the '850' (actually 829cc) featured a larger bore, through-bolted cylinder block, stronger gearbox casting and an all-metal clutch among a host of other, minor improvements.
In 1974, a mildly revised MkII version was introduced featuring new colour schemes, while the MkII A came with a quieter, annular discharge silencers and larger airbox enabling it to meet European noise regulations.
This machine is being sold as a collector’s item, part of a stunning private collection of Vintage and Classic machines that have all been dry stored for several of years and will require recommissioning prior to use.
