The Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE is a new player in the mid-size adventure class. Not only is the model itself completely new, but also its two-cylinder engine. The Suzuki V-Strom 800 DE was presented for the first time in the fall of 2022 at the EICMA in Milan.
How powerful is the new V-Strom 800? This is exactly 84 hp generated at 8,500 rpm. At the beginning, it is also worth mentioning that we are dealing with a completely new engine. These are two cylinders arranged in a row. The displacement is exactly 776 cm3. The same engine went to the new model Suzuki GSX-8S.
Probably many of you are wondering how this engine is doing on the road? To be honest, the unit is surprised with its agility and very eager to screw up the revs. It is difficult to accuse the engine of sluggishness in any range of revs. It behaves very nicely both in the lower, middle and upper range. Importantly, even at high revs, no unpleasant vibrations are transmitted to the body.
Suzuki representatives already emphasized during the press presentation that when designing the power unit, they placed great emphasis on minimizing any vibrations transmitted from the engine to the body. And you have to admit that you can really see the effects of these activities.
The power delivery characteristics of the V-Strom 800 are greatly influenced by the specificity of the cranks on the shaft every 270 degrees, which made this engine similar to the one used, for example, by Yamaha in the Tenere 700 model. The offsets of the cranks every 270 degrees make the engine sound more characteristic and reflect power in a way similar to the V2 engine.
A nice touch is the use of a quick-shifter that allows you to change gears up and down without using the clutch. The quick-shifter works in the V_Storm 800 DE with a 6-speed gearbox.
Riding comfort is ensured by the front-mounted 21-inch wheel that allows for perfect handling of the motorcycle on winding roads and for trouble-free cornering and quick changes of direction. This solution, combined with a wide handlebar, provides a great sense of security and stability.
The braking system, which is well-matched to the weight of the motorcycle, also deserves attention and praise. They dose the braking power very well, both on asphalt and country roads.
It seems that Suzuki, when designing the V-Storm 800 DE, wanted to provide users with a motorcycle that is both versatile, but also gives a lot of joy and satisfaction from the miles covered.
Suzuki V-Storm 800 DE provides excellent seating conditions for a motorcyclist that exceed the comfort of many other brands, e.g. Yamaha Tenere 700 and this deserves another praise. The downside will be the fairing used. Unfortunately, it is too small and does not protect sufficiently against the wind, and the adjustment is possible only with the use of keys, which further complicates the matter. This will be particularly noticeable when driving on asphalt roads at higher speeds.
Is the V-Strom 800 DE a good choice for tall riders? According to the drivers, yes. Even tall riders over 185 cm tall find the bike comfortable and easy to handle.
How much does the V-Strom 800 DE smoke? With a full tank of fuel, the V-Storm is capable of about 250 miles, which with a 20 litre fuel tank looks pretty good. It should be noted that the Suzuki V-Storm 800 DE is not a light motorcycle and additionally has a dynamic engine.
There are three riding modes to choose from Adjustable ABS for off-road riding, with rear-wheel ABS disabled, and Adjustable Traction Control with the added option of Gravel.
The V-Storm will be great both off-road and on asphalt, in a quiet ride and for people looking for stronger impressions on gravel roads.
The Suzuki V-Strom dashboard is subdued and not overcrowded, providing all the essential information just like a good dashboard should.
I like the display on the V-Strom 800 DE. And I don't mean its colours or contrast at all, because BMW displays are currently winning in this category. But here at Suzuki I really like the low level of complexity and a certain simplicity. You don't have to go into the menu settings, spend time and attention on operating subsequent switches. We have everything at hand and everything is perfectly legible. Ride Mode, Traction Control, ABS and you're done. I like this!
All in all, we consider the Suzuki V-Storm to be a really good bike and we can wholeheartedly recommend it.
